240Z SU Carburetor Rebuild
Re: 240Z SU Carburetor Rebuild
Looks great, Randy, hope George appreciates it! Did you find all of the pieces you need to replace to get the carbs in good working order?

Re: 240Z SU Carburetor Rebuild
Here's the finished product. Turned out pretty nice. A lot of the original cadmium plating is still in pretty good condition. Steve, I had to source the following parts:
4 carb to manifold spacer gaskets (I cut new ones)
2 float bowl gaskets
2 carb to manifold phenolic spacers
2 plastic ball end throttle links
1 carb center link
8 carb to manifold lock washers
8 carb to manifold stainless steel flat washers
1 screw and lock washer for the fuel filter retainer bail
One of the needles was slightly bent, which I was able to straighten with the old drill motor trick. I may reinstall them and do a little tuning with the car running sometime this weekend. They should run much better. I found a number of areas where there were probably vacuum leaks.

Wow, those look fantastic! Love the polished bling. What did you use to polish them? Hand or machine?
Nice job Randy. I hope we can clean mine up one day.

Re: 240Z SU Carburetor Rebuild
Started with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to get all the deep pits and scratches out and then went to 600. After that used my bench buffing wheel with some aluminum compound. Took probably about 30-45 minutes per dome. Now thinking I may pull mine and touch them up a bit.

They look good, how did she run? Did you have to do much "tweaking" after getting them back on the car?
Nice job.

Re: 240Z SU Carburetor Rebuild
Started up without using the choke. Just had to up the idle a bit and balance them. Set the mixture knobs at 2 1/2 turns down and told George to drive it a bit and then bring it by so we can check the plugs. He called today to say it seems to run with more power and doesn't hesitate like it used to.
