Keeping busy...
While I'm recovering from some minor surgery, I decided to work on my brake idea. I want to use the Wilwood 12" rotor and their Dynapro calipers on the front. I want to make my own stuff as much as possible, so I I did some measuring, head scratching, and drew out my ideas in Autocad. When I was happy with the fit, I imported the Autocad drawings into Fusion 360 and generated a 3D IGF file from my drawings.
With the IGF file in hand, I fed that into my slicer software and made up a G-code file to use on the 3D printer and made a mock up of my rotor hat to start piecing together the front brakes.
I will make the caliper mounting bracket next, then fit the wheels to check clearance.... Once that is done, I can take my drawings over to the shop to make aluminum parts with the knowledge that they are going to fit correctly. That's the plan anyways...

Rack and pinion steering modification
I originally wanted to fab my own front crossmember, but decided to cut some time out of the project by using a James Boswell Coachwerks crossmember. I opted for the version 3 kit which uses the Ford Escort steering rack. The crossmember seems very robust, and quality of the design and workmanship are outstanding.

- Got the crossmember assembled today. Its a pretty straight forward assembly. The bushings that hold the rack need to be greased because of the very tight fit, then mount the rack and attach the Saab tie rod ends.
November 14, 2020
- I installed the new splined shaft and U-joints that came with the kit. This was pretty easy, had to shorten and slot the steering column tube, then it was just a bolt on install.

Still working on the front end. Getting close to finalizing my front brakes now. I designed the caliper bracket in Fusion 360, and printed it out in plastic. Had to do a couple of iterations to get the spacing right, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I rendered the caliper bracket front side in aluminum, and then did a back side render in walnut....
Mounted my mocked up plastic brake hat and caliper bracket to the strut to verify dimensions. The rotor is a Wilwood 12.19" diameter, 0.81" thick ventilated, and caliper is the Dynapro (I wanted the black power coated finish, and the ability to change pads without removing the caliper).
I need to mount to the car and check clearances next, but that's for another day.
