Shifters
Shifters
I was rummaging around in my parts bins last week and discovered I had three different lengths/profiles of Datsun shifters. Curious to know if anyone might know what each of them fits. I'm hoping I might be able to use the middle length one with the 5-speed I'm planning to install in the 240-Z. Pretty sure the one I have in it now is the longest version. Thoughts?

Re: Shifters
I am pretty sure my 5 speed has the middle one but it’s an 77-78 5speed I think you have the later transmission

Re: Shifters
I think you will need the middle one. I know I had to bend the ZX shifter quite a bit to get it to go into 3rd and 5th without hitting the console in the 280.
I also like to cut a couple inches off and cut new threads on the end. It shortens the throw a bit.

Re: Shifters
Thanks for the replies guys. Ryan, the 5-speed I currently have in my 240 came out of a 77 or 78 280Z. The one going back in it is from a 280ZX (79-82). Carl, guess I'll have to do some test fitting first. I like the idea of shortening the shifter. I modified the one I had in my yellow Z.
