Decided to work on my front struts......
Blew off all the dust, removed the springs and the old shock insert. Cut off the upper spring perch by scoring it all the way around with a hack saw, then striking it with ball peen to tear the perch off where it was scored. Ready to cut and shorten the strut tubes for the new inserts now.
I rated this step at a 1 beer difficulty level.

Looking good. Love to see it in person.

Cut the front strut tubes and shortened by 3 3/8" to accommodate Koni Race shock inserts (these are 280zx struts). Struts were then welded and ground down enough to allow the coil over sleeves to slide over them.

If you want to blast them and bring them up to me I can powder coat them for you.

Thanks for the offer Rob. I will probably just bead blast them and put a couple layers of mastercoat on them right now. I just needed to get them together so that I could finish my engine install and verify the caster angle with everything in place.

Sure, no problem. I’ve been powder coating all my suspension as I go along. Just finished installing the rear end this morning which finished my suspension work. Just need to make brackets for the rear disc brakes and the brakes will be done also. It’s nice to finally have the car back to being a roller again. If you need a set of rear stainless steel brake lines, I have a new set from T3 for $25.

Rob,
I might take you up on powder coating a couple things down the road a bit. I still have a lot of basic fitting to do before I permanently coat anything.
You must be getting close to the point that you can bring yours to Williams in October? I am really looking forward to the day when mine is sitting on its wheels again, but I'm at least a year away from that.

Not sure it will be Donne this year. Lots of other things going on. If I’m around, I will probably take my other 510 to the show in October. Have to wait and see.
Let me know if I can help you out.
