AZ Classic Car license plate

A couple of years ago I finally got my Z registered. I applied for, and received, a copper Classic Car specialty plate. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the outline and lettering are green, which looks proper on my green Z! A few people have asked me about it because most copper license plates are of the Historic Vehicle type, with red lettering.

I just went to the ADOT website to see if I could figure out why the green/copper Classic Car plates are so rare (I've never seen another one). According to this page, the licensed vehicle must be on a list filed with the MVD every five years by the Classic Car Club of America. A quick search on the CCCA's Approved Classics list does NOT turn up Datsun. In fact, the paragraph at the top of the page defines Classic as "American or foreign built, produced only between 1915 and 1948". I guess that explains THAT, but begs another question - how did my 1976 280Z end up with a Classic Car plate?
