James' 72 240z 2JZGTE build

Post by datsunfsu »

Picked up Datsun this winter with a 2JZGTE swap. From what I can find on Hybridz, this was one of the first swapped 2JZs back in 2006. From what I can find from the swap owner had completed below. Funny part was the car had 2 key'd ignitions so that was the first to switch it back to 1 (Datsun).

Engine: 1994 Supra Twin Turbo US version. Stock.
Apex-iAVC-R Boost Controller
Apex-i SAF-C II Fuel Controller (not setup)
ATL22 Gallon Fuel Cell, retaining side fill.
Getrag 6 Speed V160
Fidanza Lightweight flywheel
Differential: Armada / 300ZX TT R230 VLSD Hybrid
Axles: 6 Bolt 300ZX TT Modified axles
Modern Motorsports Billet Stub Axles
Brakes: Modern Motorsports Brakes front and rear
Ground Control Camber Plates
Energy Suspension Bushings
Energy Suspension Sway Bars
Modern Motorsports Adjustable Rear Control Arms
Recaro Seats take offs from a new EVO
8 Point Roll Cage.
Vintage Air AC Unit
a tanabe downpipe
massive extra thick griffin radiator,
hks sequential blow off valve
Supra seat belts

Since the buy.
Took it at the quarter mile and ran 12.8 - 12.9 smoking first gear at 15PSI. Had to see what it can do before any engine mods :D
EGR delete (was registered in Cali one time ago) and added a full size battery
added Whale tail
Bypass the sequential turbo (issues) mod
Fix wipers
Fix interior rattles

Working on now:
Needs dash and gauges (had the supra gauges installed). Cutting and fixing all of the cracks to fit around the cage. Going to go with Speedhut gauges
adding a AEM Wideband

So cool James! the car must be a beast with that engine in it. What kind of structural support has been added? Are you doing all the work yourself? Look forward to seeing your car. Where in the valley are you located? Thanks for posting pictures.

The original builder extended the frame rails to the back, added more welded support in the inside floors and stitched up the front strut towers more. Most of the work I will do myself other than welding (not good at it). It is more fun than my 260z was but steering is heavier at low speeds. Need to add in power steering at some point. Getting it ready for autocross this Sept.

Got the dash in and added the wideband. Ordered some speedhut guages which will take six weeks. Off to work on the AC system next.
