Had Performance Muffler in North Phoenix fabricate a new 2" exhaust system from the down-pipe back, using a shorty Magnaflow can in the proper location. So much better than listening to a holey exhaust system. The real challenge with this car is deciding where/when to quit mechanically and cosmetically. Today's drive to the muffler shop was the furthest so far. Car runs exceptionally well.

That's awesome Randy. Hope to go for a ride in it, one of these days.

:D Nothing else to do. To do list tomorrow is draining and refilling diff, inspecting brakes, adjusting emergency brake, attaching exhaust hanger, installing new fan belt, cleaning and lubricating door latches and installing new shift bushing and boot. There's a lot of little stuff to do yet.

This heat is definitely slowing my progress. Didn't get as much done today as I'd hoped, but did get the new fabbed exhaust hanger on, scraped a very greasy diff clean, drained and re-filled it, and removed cleaned and lubricated all the door latches. Also pulled off the ratty door weather stripping on both sides, in preparation for some new Kia Sportage seals I hope to score at the salvage yard tomorrow morning. I happened to notice that my car is missing the inner black metal door sill plates that go over the rubber seals at the bottom of the door, inboard of the aluminum sill plates. I'm going to need a pair. Anybody have an extra set they'd be willing to sell or trade for something else I have?

Today I was able to score a perfect pair of Kia Sportage door seals at U Pull & Pay on 2501 Buckeye Rd. Total cost was just under $20 for both. If anyone's interested, there's still another set there if you move quickly. Didn't get a lot more done today, but did get the seals installed with the door latch hardware I cleaned up and lubricated. Also cleaned up and lubricated the gas cap and door hardware.

I've used Ameriseal 280z door seals in Ashly's Z, Bart's z, and James used em on his 240z with good results and the Kia seals as well.

The aluminum sill plates on the car were pretty ratty looking. I started by hammering out all the dents and imperfections and then wondered how they would look after soda blasting them. They were definitely better, but the finish was kind of uneven. I decided to see how they would look painted silver and I think they turned out pretty nice. I spayed them with two coats of Rustoleum Silver Metallic and then two more coats of clear. Here's a couple photos of the final installed product. I wish I'd shot some before pictures, as the change was pretty dramatic. You can also see the Kia Sportage door seals I installed.
