To Bagdad and Back

Post by Randalla »

Just a quick reminder that this run will be here before you know it. As has always been the case for the last 12? years it will be the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, which this year is November 25th. Details to follow soon. Mark your calendars. Will very likely be the largest number of Datsuns and Nissans ever.

But if you're impatient, look back through this EVENTS section to last November (edit: NO details there, so, I lied...) and the one before (edit: Wow... a few details there but you really have to dig...). We run the same route with the same meeting spot yearly. Pretty nice run with a bit of fun road closer to Bagdad and on the way out... The diner there is a nice place to eat lunch.

Edit: Hopefully Randalla will edit the first post with all the actual details this year. We've done this so many years that most of us assume everyone already knows. In the past we've always met at the McDonalds on the Carefree Highway just east of I-17 to leave by 10 or so. Randy usually passes out maps to anyone who needs and explains the route at the meeting spot. Google Maps says Bagdad is 1 hour and 46 minutes from there - but most of us are driving Z's so... Anyway, this is planned to hit Bagdad about lunch time. We hang out there for a bit, take pictures in the parking lot and then choose our own way home.

Google Maps will show the route we usually take there - Carefree to Wickenburg, then US93 towards Las Vegas to the US97 turnoff and US96 into Bagdad. Most of us choose to go back via the US96 to the US89 through Yarnell and Congress then wherever you need to go to get home. That's the normal day, time, route but Randy will post the "Tea" (i read that on the interweb) for this year I'm sure.

Thanks! I looked back at the past few years' threads and didn't see any details, so I appreciate the update. My Z is running well and is my DD, so as of now, I should be good to go as long as nothing major comes up.

Chuck, thanks for filling Jeff in on the plan and route. The run will be on Saturday, November 25th (Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend) and will depart from the McDonald's on Carefree Hwy and the I-17 at 10:30 sharp. Plan on meeting there by 10:00. The route Chuck outlined is correct, and the "Diner on Main" will again be our lunch venue. Jeff, will look forward to meeting in person and we can catch up on all things Michigan.

I was just looking at the route and I saw that the Diner On Main says "Permanently Closed" according to Google. Has anybody been there lately?

It looks like there only two places to eat in Bagdad. Copper Country Bar & Grill and a Mexican place

Jeff, thanks for the heads up on the Diner on Main. It is indeed now closed. I'm sure there's a back story I will be interested to hear. I just spoke to Jessie who is the manger of the Copper Country Bar and Grille in Bagdad and he was very accommodating and excited to host us. The reviews look pretty good. More details to follow, but they say they can easily handle our crowd and will set up their back room for our group or we can hang out in the bar area. There's plenty of room for parking our rides. Only one other restaurant in Bagdad and it's new so hopefully Copper Country will be good and become our new go to place for this annual run.

OK, I need to get a count of people who will be on this run to give the restaurant for lunch. If you're planning on attending this year please post up here, no later than Monday, November 20th. I'm expecting this to be a very well attended event from both Desert Datsuns and the Desert Z Association clubs. Thank you!
