Yep, you're inserting it wrong.

(that's what she said)

Hook end goes in the carrier. Square drive end needs another tool to rotate it. Looks like the orange piece:

Alternatively, you can get a later one, which has the square drive in the lug wrench (black).

Thanks, will look around and see if I have those pieces. I spent the last two days taking the rear brakes apart and cleaning. Both drums were worn beyond spec, so I have new ones coming from Rock Auto, as well as new shoes and hardware. The passenger side brake adjuster was broken so I need to find one along with the retaining clips, new or used. Looks like those may be tough to find. Anybody here have an extra one??? Thanks!

Greg, I found the pouch with the lug wrench and the crank handle. Was a piece of cake removing the spare once I knew what I was looking for. I'll leave the spare wheel/tire off for now. It was totally dry rotted and the rim will need to be stripped and repainted (definitely a back burner item). I also removed the mechanism for lowering and raising the spare and will take that apart and renew it later as well. Still hammering away on dents, but making good progress. I finished buffing another panel on the truck today which looks nice. Next two items on the list, while I am waiting for my rear brake parts, is to finish shampooing the front bench seat (and re-install), and diagnosing my fuel delivery issue.

Spent a good part of yesterday, with Ron's help, diagnosing my fuel delivery issue. We decided I really needed to drop the tank, as we found several hoses that were rotten and just decided it would be wise to replace all the soft fuel and vapor lines. Dropped both the tank and vapor canister today and purchased new rubber lines. Tomorrow I need to figure out where all the spaghetti of rubber lines go. There are 4 outlets on the tank and 4 on the vapor canister.

Tested the fuel sending unit with a multimeter this morning and it checks out fine. Soaked it in a bath of cider vinegar to clean it up first. Forgot how great cider vinegar works on rust. I'd been buying EvapoRust at around $25.00 per gallon, and after using the cider vinegar at $8.00 per gallon, I think I just bought my last jug of EvapoRust. Vinegar works just as fast and just as well. Used my inspection camera to inspect the inside of the tank and it is spotless with no trace of rust. Also finished up a small related restoration project today, the 620 spare tire hoist. It was dirty and rusty. It was a bit of a Chinese puzzle getting it all back together, but a fun little project nonetheless. I'll wait to get a new spare tire and have the rim stripped and repainted before reinstalling the hoist.

Stephen, just when I think I'm making progress I find five more things that have to be done that I had not planned on. Arghhhh! Williams is getting too close.

Randy, nice work on the stuff no one ever sees. You'll sleep better at night. Amazing that the tank could be so clean. 1977 was a long time ago!
