Yep. Carl is correct.

2014 Xterra Pro-4x
A bit off-topic, but most of you have seen Becky's '14 Xterra. We're going to be selling soon, so locals get first shot at it. Silver & black, 115k, 6-speed manual, completely original, loaded except leather and nav, never off-roaded (probably never over 4k rpm either). New tires, all scheduled ...

Re: The Adventure Begins- My 620 build thread
Yep, you're inserting it wrong.
(that's what she said)
Hook end goes in the carrier. Square drive end needs another tool to rotate it. Looks like the orange piece:
Alternatively, you can get a later one, which has the square drive in the lug wrench (black).

RE: plate - if the original owner failed to register the truck continuously throughout ownership, the red plate may have been issued. Could have been out of service for a period, or was a company vehicle converted to non-commercial use, who truly knows? There's always certain details left out of the...

Re: The Adventure Begins- My 620 build thread
Randy, the handle inserts into the carrier (see yellow arrow) and upon rotation, raises or lowers the spare on the chain.

Re: The Adventure Begins- My 620 build thread
Randy - The orange/black '73 plates indicate the year they started using that series of plate. Those ran until the maroon and white plates were issued, so it could have been anywhere from 73 to the mid-80s IIRC. My first car had the orange 73 plates until 1987. Change of ownership dictated the chang...

Re: The Adventure Begins- My 620 build thread
You'll want to find a shroud regardless.... Larger fan is great, but without direction, it doesn't really pull thru the rad when stopped.
Plus it's good for safety.
I'll rummage through the Ranch and see if I have one that will work (I suspect a 78-79 shroud would be correct).

Re: The Adventure Begins- My 620 build thread
You'll definitely have to pull the fan to install the shroud properly (or pull the rad, but that's a PITA). I love these projects. Rolling restorations are fun. Maybe hit up one of the paint matching places, get a rattle can and a pint can. Thinned down, if you brush it over those bare / rusty spots...

Gabe is stellar. Great guy, and affordable.
Got a stud welder and slide hammer here as well. The mass of stuff you buy for a project... haha.
